Mark shines for KZN’s water polo team

The Northwood School learner recently represented KZN U18A Currie Cup team at a tournament in Stellenbosch.

NORTHWOOD School’s Mark Fouche (right) has always been a water baby. He has always loved swimming and surfing and has even completed two Dusi Canoe Marathons and a Fish Canoe Marathon.

He recently represented KZN U18A Currie Cup team at a tournament in Stellenbosch. The men’s team finished third losing to Gauteng by 6-5 in the semi-final.

“It was such an honour representing the team. In the past I’ve made U16A and the U18B team but this was my first time being part of the U18A side. It was such an awesome experience. I think tournaments like this are beneficial to a player, it gives you an indication of where you are and you get to learn at the same time,” he said.

Fouche, who is also the captain of the school’s water polo first team finished as the fourth highest goal scorer at the competition.

“I think Northwood as a school has grown with the likes of our coach Hadyn Skinner, he’s helped me grow personally and the teams have gained immense confidence. We’ve always had the talent but not necessarily the coaching skills, that was until Mr Skinner arrived. I hope in the future to represent South Africa at an international competition or even the Olympics. I’m currently trying to secure a scholarship to the USA to pursue my dream,” he said.
