Roleplayers unite to curb Briar Lane crime spike
The roleplayers say they will focus on criminal activities in the area to deter and combat this situation.
SEVERAL roleplayers attended a meeting to discuss the state of the pedestrian walkway on Briar Lane earlier this week. A number of homes have been broken into and it’s believed the criminals have been using the walkway as a thoroughfare. The palisade fencing of the lane leading towards North Coast Road had also been vandalised.
Glass and litter is also regularly strewn along the walkway which is also used by pupils of Rosehill Primary School.
Members of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the uMgeni Park neighbourhood watch, Rosehill Primary School, the parks department and Durban North ward councillor Shaun Ryley discussed the general state of neglect of maintenance of the site.
Brian Daish, chairman of Greenwood Park Community Police Forum sub forum 4, sector 3 said the meeting was fruitful. According to Daish, the aim of the meeting was to focus on criminal activities in the area and what various roleplayers’ functions were to deter and combat this situation.
“It was an extremely positive meeting and all roleplayers committed to carrying out their mandate with follow-up in a few weeks on progress. There needs to be an effort by some residents to clear vegetation on their properties bordering Briar Lane.If we work together here and remain positive I am sure we will achieve results,” he said.
