Possible snowfall on the berg this weekend

Snow expected for the high peaks in the southern and central Drakensberg (Lesotho side).

SNOW is expected for parts of South Africa this weekend. That’s according to Snow Report SA. On their Facebook page this morning they said snow is expected for high peaks in southern and central Drakensberg.

“Our forecast this morning remains the same as yesterday. We are still expecting snow over most of the high peaks in the southern and central Drakensberg (Lesotho side). To mention a few of the peaks, Mafadi, Champagne Castle, Giants Castle, Thabana Ntlenyana and Njesuthi. Anything between 3cm and 7cm can be expected through the day on Saturday on these high peaks.

“We are not expecting any snow to fall below elevations of 3 200 meters. It is unlikely that the snow will be visible from SA on Saturday, and may be visible on Sunday from vantage points in KZN if the accompanying rain doesn’t wash it all away, and the clouds clear,” the post said.

The front has already arrived in KZN, and cold and wet weather is expected later today.

“Many coastal areas in the WC and EC started reporting welcome rains from yesterday afternoon as the system has moved up the coast. The weather is clearing behind the system already.”
