TAKE NOTE: Plan route to Ballito today

FOR those travelling to or from Ballito today,  plan your route ahead of time. Protest action by the ANC Youth League is currently taking place along the R102. Marchers will converge on the newly opened Ballito Junction Regional Mall.

According to W/O Vinny Pillay of Umhlali SAPS, the marchers will make their way down the P445 (Ballito Drive) to the mall. He said that the N2 won’t be affected by the march. Police are on hand to monitor the protest.

The ANC Youth League’s Regional Secretary, Musa Zondi, said at a press briefing on March 17, that the reason for the protest against the new shopping centre was because it had broken its promise to employ people from local communities. “The ANCYL believes the economy should benefit the region as a whole, not just selected people,” Zondi said.

Several hundred protesters are slowly making their way to the mall at the moment, less than the “10 000” Zondi promised.

W/O Pillay said that the march will conclude after a memorandum has been handed to Ballito Junction representatives. He said the protest is expected to end at around 3pm.
