SAQA to name and shame fake certificate holders
According to the government, publicly naming and shaming holders will end the growing prevalence of qualification forgeries.
THE South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) will register the names of holders of fake certificates on its website. Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Jeff Radebe, said at the end of January 2017, a total of 1 276 qualifications, including 444 national and 832 foreign qualifications, were recorded on SAQA’s list of misrepresented qualifications.
“A total of 78 affidavits have been completed for handover to the Hawks for prosecution,” Radebe said. The Minister said that government is securing the credibility of qualifications and higher education system.
He said the announcement by the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande, on action to be taken against holders of fake qualifications, including prosecuting and publicly naming and shaming them, will contribute to ending the growing prevalence of qualification forgeries.
