Search for missing baby continues

No luck in the missing baby case despite extensive searches.

THE search for a baby taken during a hijacking in Durban on Friday is ongoing. The missing child, Siwaphiwe Mbambo is only a month old and had a white long sleeve vest and a nappy on. Her mother was forced out of her car, a white Toyota Yaris, at gunpoint at a shopping centre at about noon on Friday, the vehicle was later found abandoned in Montclair.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, since the recovery of the vehicle, several searches organised by police and community members in and around Durban had taken place.

“Members of the South African Police Services search and rescue unit conducted a search of the dense bush area near where the vehicle was recovered last night with no luck. We are aware of members of the public conducting searches in various areas and we would like to emphasize the importance of concern for personal safety as well as crime scene preservation. The suspects involved in the incident are armed and dangerous. Should you have any information which may lead to the location of the missing person, please contact the South African Police Services on 10 111,” he said.

Childline KZN also added their voices to those calling for the safe return of the one month old infant.

“As Childline KZN we’ve emphasised at all times that our priority is the protection of children and we are deeply saddened by this incident. The organisation implores all those with influence over the perpetrators to do everything they can to secure the safe return of the baby and to bring the abductors to justice,” said Childline KZN Operations Manager, Adeshini Naicker.
