Deadlift challenge in aid of PACT

All proceeds raised on the day will go toward the Phoenix Animal Care & Treatment (PACT).

OFF The Grid Athletic (OTG) strength and conditioning facility will be hosting ‘Dawn of the Dead’ a “deadlift only” competition on Saturday, 18 February. The event starts at 9am and runs until 12 noon. Proceeds will go toward the Phoenix Animal Care & Treatment (PACT).
The NPO was established in March 2012 dedicated to providing care and medical treatment for animals in the Phoenix area.

Now, uMhlanga residents Lil and Scott Kimble who own the gym have decided to host the deadlift competition in the hope of raising awareness and have encouraged participants coming to watch the competition to donate a can of pet food as the entrance fee.

“We love animals and often support local animal charities, but this was a first for us by hosting a powerlifting competition for PACT. We heard about the organisation through Derrick dos Santos and we just wanted to give back and raise awareness for the amazing work that the organisation does,” Lil said.

On the day, there will be approximately 50 competitors made up of world and provincial champs.

“We love to support the little guys, often the bigger foundations have great support but it’s the smaller organisations that need more help. We have a French bulldog named Luna and we have started something called the Luna Foundation, which is something we hope to set-up to help animal organisations. We have set a cap of 50 competitors, with an entrance fee of R200 to compete. We are encouraging spectators to bring a can of pet food on the day. All of proceeds raised will go to PACT. We want residents to come and support the event,” Scott said.

The gym is situated on the corner of Equinox and Meridian Drive. Email lil@otgathletic.co.za for more information.
