Shooting spree suspect on the loose

A SANDF member is on the loose following a shooting incident that left one woman killed and three people, including a police officer, wounded in Ntuzuma.

A South African National Defense Force (SANDF) member who went on a shooting spree in Ntuzuma, north of Durban, yesterday is still on the loose.

The SANDF released a statement saying that SAPS is on the hunt for the 26-year-old suspect. They have also sent their Military Police to try and track the man down. He is a member of the 8 South African Infantry Battalion (8 SAI) in Upington, Northern Cape.

Brigadier General Mafi Mgobozi, spokesman for the SANDF: “The SAPS has activated the Tactical Response Team (TRT) to track and locate the SANDF member. The Military Police have been dispatched to the scenes of the shootings. The SANDF will co-operate with the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the law takes its course, ”

Mgobhozi confirmed that one person was killed and three were wounded, including a police officer. The shooting spree, according to Mgobozi started in Inanda when the soldier drove from Upington to look for his girlfriend. Mgobozi said the soldier opened fire with an automatic R4 Assault Rifle as he entered the premises. The allegedly shot his girlfriend’s female friend. The woman died on the scene.

“The incident is a police matter now and they will release more details as the investigation continues. The SANDF will not tolerate, condone nor dismiss any type or form of ill-discipline committed by any of its members regardless of rank, status or position held no matter the circumstances and or situation under which the transgression(s) are made,” said Mgobozi.

Our attempts to speak to speak to lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane who is the SAPS Spokesperson in KZN were unsuccessful.
