WATCH: 96 drivers stopped in daytime operation

Durban North SAPS explain why they are holding more daytime operations.

DURBAN North SAPS held a vehicle checkpoint on The Curl in Glen Anil earlier today. While no one was charged in the operation, 96 vehicles were stopped. Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said police were also on the lookout for specific vehicles involved in break-ins and robberies in the area.

“This is part of our visible policing and crime prevention for the year ahead. There will be more daylight operations such as this on different roads in the area. We ask residents to be patient with us because this is not about causing an inconvenience, it’s about protecting the area,” he said.

Deokaran warned that there would be more roadblocks targeting drunk drivers as well. In December last year, 250 motorists were fined for various offenses on the M4.
