Local police reaches out to the elderly

Greenwood Park SAPS updates database.

THE Greenwood Park SAPS has encouraged the community to submit the contact details of elderly individuals over the age of 65 who are physically challenged and live alone. The aim of the request is for the police to update the records for their visitation services.

The social crime prevention service was initiated 10 years ago by the recently retired Captain Premnath Indhur Singh, after the police found a need to care for elders who are part of the vulnerable group who are susceptible to abuse and criminal elements.

The project involves daily visits to check on the elderly. Social work intervention is also arranged if the person requires it.

Communications officer for the station, Warrant Officer Leon Audh, said, “The data base is large, but it does not correspond to many who might meet the criteria. There are many new residents who moved into the area and they might not be on the data base. The population of our area is growing. Someone new will be appointed to continue from Captain Singh.”

They urge family and friends who know of someone that meets the criteria to provide them with their loved ones’ details.

If you would like to be added to the database forward the relevant contact details to Warrant officer Leon Audh with an address and phone number to  AudhL@saps.gov.za or contact him on 031 571 6521 or 079 500 0261.
