Electronic equipment recovered in uMhlanga undercover sting
A total of 13 laptops, three iPads and several hard drives were seized by undercover officers.
A MAN was arrested after an undercover operation led to the recovery of thousands of Rands of computer equipment on Saturday. The man was arrested by members of Enforce Security on the corner of Centenary Boulevard and Aurora Drive. The operation was held between the SAPS and Enforce. A total of seven laptops, three tablets and R10 000 in cash was seized in the bust. The equipment is thought to have been stolen in various break-ins in and around Durban.
The man had tried to sell the items on an online site.
According to Enforce Security’s Nico Potgeiter, a member of the investigation unit posed as a buyer during the sting operation.
“The suspect who is in his late 30s was found with thousands of Rands worth of stolen items. He alleged that he got the equipment from a Congolese national who had sold it to him. Our investigations are still in ongoing but we believe the equipment is from various break-ins in and around Durban. One of the items taken was from a home in Hillcrest. He was charged with being in possession of suspected stolen items.
“With crime evolving continually and criminals becoming increasingly sophisticated and ruthless, we as law enforcement officers and security professionals can no longer take on this fight together. We have to work together, combining our resources, experience, and skills,” he said.
The suspect was handed over to the Durban North SAPS.
