One arrested after uMhlanga break-in
The suspects climbed the three story building to gain access to the home.
ONE person has been arrested after a break-in at an uMhlanga home. According to Nikki Mohlmann, Enforce community projects manager, the suspect and an accomplice had scaled a three story building on Broadwood Drive on Saturday morning at about 2am.
“The resident fell asleep while watching the US presidential inauguration. When he woke up he noticed one of the suspects in his lounge. The resident said the suspect reeked of alcohol. He immediately pressed his panic alarm and the suspects fled the scene. Members of Enforce, the Durban North SAPS and the Upper Umhlanga Security Trust sprung into action and a foot chase ensued.
“One of the suspects was apprehended within minutes of the chase. It is unclear at this stage whether they were armed. I think the arrest just goes to show how working together with neighbourhood watches is vital to preventing crime. We feel community policing is the way forward,” she said.
The suspect has been handed over to the Durban North SAPS and its hoped he will lead the police to the arrest of the second suspect involved in the break-in.
