Hundreds pay tribute to Andy Carrie in emotional paddle out to sea.

FAMILY, friends and local residents took part in a moving tribute to Andy Carrie on Saturday with a paddle out to sea. Carrie, who loved surfing, was tragically killed in an accident on Essenwood Road more than a week ago. The former Crawford College La Lucia pupil, was hit by an alleged drunk driver.

The Mt Edgecombe resident shared his love for travel and South Africa and was well-known in the travel industry. Carrie had just recently returned to Durban after being in Abu Dhabi for the Formula 1 race.

The tribute may have been a small gesture, but it spoke to how many people Andy touched. The paddle out included a surfboard with a wreath of flowers for Andy.

The incredible tribute was captured on video by Shawn Ogulu.

His sister was also moved by the tribute taking to Facebook to say: “Thank you Ekparemu Shawn Ogulu for capturing this. We love you beautiful brother and we love you beautiful friends.”

Andy’s life will be celebrated at Glenridge Church International (65 Masabalala Yengwa Avenue, on Tuesday, 13 December at 2pm to 4pm). Andy’s friends have also asked for people to share a post for the Carrie Family of how you intend to carry on Andy’s legacy of living life to the fullest by using the hashtag, #livelikeandy.
