Hundreds stopped in M4 roadblock

Several motorists were fined for driving without a license, driving with an expired license and driving un-roadworthy vehicles

HUNDREDS of motorists were pulled over in a roadblock on the M4 near the Broadway (Swapo Road) off-ramp earlier today. Several motorists were fined for driving without a license, driving with an expired license and driving un-roadworthy vehicles. The operation was held by the Metro Police and the Durban North SAPS and saw more than 140 vehicles stopped.

When Northglen News arrived on scene, one motorist began having an altercation with a Metro Police officer. She used obscenities and berated the officer saying she had places to go and better things to do.

Metro Police also cordoned off the off-ramp to Broadway in an effort to try and stop motorists from escaping the roadblock. The northbound and southbound lanes were both targeted in the operation.

Ward 110 councillor, Pete Graham, who sits on the Security and Emergency Services Committee applauded the officers for their efforts.

“I’ve heard people say police are targeting the M4 but that is not true. Ultimately this is for the safety of all road users. The City has adopted a zero tolerance to those breaking the rules of the road. I hope to see more of these types of operations,” he said.
