DA councillor opens case following ‘death threat’

Pete Graham alleged the threat was made at an ANC branch meeting earlier this week.

DEMOCRATIC Alliance (DA) ward 110 councillor, Pete Graham, has opened a case of intimidation at the Durban North SAPS following a ‘death threat’ made against him. Graham has alleged the threat was made by a member of the African National Congress (ANC) at a branch meeting in Mount Royal Primary School on Monday night.

Graham said he now walks around wearing a bulletproof vest and will be limiting his exposure in identified risk areas.

“It was reported to me that because things are not well on the ANC’s side, ‘Peter Graham the Councillor will need to be killed to pave the way for the by-election so that we will be able to claim ward 110’. I’m now walking around with a bulletproof vest. I travel to the area all the time in my own car and I’ve got no protection. If someone takes what he said seriously it could end in a serious situation,” he said.

Graham, who was recently elected councillor for the newly demarcated ward opened a case at the police station this morning.

Bheki Ntuli, regional secretary of the ANC in the eThekwini region said he did not believe the claims made by Graham.

“I’m shocked to hear of these allegations. Let me say murder and violence has no place in the ANC, we do not accept this kind of behaviour. I don’t believe the claims by the DA councillor. We have won so many wards in KZN we are not that desperate to win this ward,” he said.
