Mayor launches Anti-Fraud and Corruption Campaign

Anyone who engages in fraudulent activities will face the full might of the law.

ETHEKWINI Municipality Mayor, Zandile Gumede, reaffirmed her commitment to eradicate fraud and corruption.

The City will fight the scourge unapologetically,” she mayor said.

She was speaking at the launch of the City’s Anti-fraud and Corruption Campaign, which was hosted at the City Hall on Monday.

The campaign launch coincides with International Fraud Awareness Week.

Gumede said fraud and corruption are two factors that greatly hinder service delivery and deplete resources that are intended for the poor.

“Fraud and corruption are among the most serious obstacles to good governance, economic and social development. In this regard, the City has numerous measures in place which are built into plan seven of the Integrated Development Plan,” the mayor said.

The launch comes a week after a City official was nabbed for promising a resident a job in council, in exchange for cash.
