SAPS alarmed over Avoca crime spike

Three robberies in three days are a cause for concern for local police.

THREE business robberies have rocked the Avoca area in the Greenwood policing district in a space of just three days. The incidents are worrying police who are appealing to the community to come forward with information regarding the armed attacks.

In the most recent incident, a security guard was bound with cable ties and shoelaces during an armed robbery in Avoca Hills, just after midnight last night.

Greenwood Park SAPS’s W/O Leon Audh said the guard went to investigate after he heard sounds coming from another part of a building he was guarding.

“The guard went to investigate and was confronted by a suspect who pointed a firearm at him. Four other suspects joined the first suspect and tied the guard with cable ties and shoelaces. After raiding the building, the suspects made off with various electronic devices,”Audh said.

The spate is worrying the Greenwood Park who have called on the community to attend their upcoming Imbizo. The Imbizo is aimed at addressing crime issues and finding a way for police and the community to work together to eradicate crime.

The Imbizo will take place at the Greenwood Park Community Hall (corner North Coast and Buxton Roads) on Wednesday, 16 November at 6.30pm.
