#FeesMustFall fundraiser for DUT students

The aim of the event is to raise funds for underprivileged students who have maintained a good pass rate, but are experiencing financial difficulties during their studies at DUT.

THE Durban University of Technology’s Department of Student Governance and Development and the South African Student Congress (SASCO) in collaboration with the Nehawu DUT Branch will host a #FeesMustFall fundraising event. The event comes amidst widespread violent student protests around the country and will take place at the DUT Ritson Campus Hotel School Conference Centre, on Friday, 28 October.

The aim of the #FeesMustFall fundraising event is to raise funds for underprivileged students who have maintained a good pass rate but are experiencing financial difficulties during their studies at DUT.

The funds however will not be accessible to NSFAS and bursary students as it is purely for those students who do not receive funding of any sort. The qualifying students will need to prove that they are in dire financial straits in order to continue their studies at DUT and go through a stringent selection process that has been put in place.

The fundraising event also aims to shine a positive light on the #FeesMustFall campaign which has been gaining momentum for negative reasons throughout this year.

Stakeholders are also invited to make contributions to the event which will sell tickets at a cost of R1 000 a seat. All monies collected will go towards an account which will only be used for fundraising towards students earmarked to receive funds once they have gone through the selection procedures. The event takes place between 5pm and 8pm.
