WATCH: Adrian ‘Sings’ his way to crown nomination

A Mount Edgecombe resident has received two nominations for this year’s SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards.

MOUNT Edgecombe resident Adrian Sing has taken the gospel world by storm. In the last three months the 32-year-old has not only sold over 1 000 copies of his debut album, Unashamed, but he has also received two nominations for the 9th Annual SABC Crown Gospel Music Awards.

The album’s opening track, All the Glory, was nominated for the Best Gospel Rock award while, The Lord Will Never Fail earned Sing a Best Gospel Songwriter nomination.

“The nominations came as a huge surprise. Especially considering that the other nominees, such as Andile Kamajola, Dr Tumi and Pierson Pretorius for 3c Live are well established artists who have sold over 100 000 albums,” said the husband and father of two.

What’s more, Sing is also a finalist for the eThekwini Gospel Icon Discovery Competition and the Essence Festival Durban.

The passionate artist has also recently earned the top spot on the ReverbNation charts in the Christian/ gospel category, beating established artists such as Janine Price and Dudu Mash.

Ironically, Sing, who is a music director and pastor at the Rhema Durban church, said he never aspired to become a famous singer.

“I learned to play my first instrument, the piano, when I was about 20 years old. I wanted to learn because a piano player was needed at the church. I started all of this to make a difference. I saw what impact music could have on people. How it could encourage people who were down and out,” he explained.

Sing said he plans to launch his second album next year.

The SABC Crown Gospel Awards will be broadcast live on SABC 2 on 27 November at 8pm.
