M25, a smash-and-grab hotspot

In the most recent incident a woman was robbed at gunpoint after the suspect smashed the passenger side window.

POLICE have warned that the M25 bridge, off Chris Hani Road, has recently become a hotspot for smash-and-grab incidents. In the most recent incident a woman was robbed at gunpoint after the suspect smashed the passenger side window.

According to W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the Greenwood Park SAPS, the incident occurred just after 7pm as the victim stopped at the M25 bridge.

He said the victim alleged that soon after her vehicle stopped she heard a loud bang coming from the passenger door.

“When she turned to check what was going on, she had noticed that her passenger side glass had been shattered and an unknown male pointing a firearm at her,” he said.

The suspect reportedly demanded that the victim hand over her belongings, which included her cell phone and sunglasses. The suspect then fled on foot. Audh confirmed that no shots had been fired at the scene.

Audh assured the public that the station had increased visibility in the vicinity and also formed a task team to ‘investigate and eradicate this scourge’.
