Outpouring of love for Tovey after heart attack

Tovey, a Mt Edgecomeb resident is reportedly in ICU at a local hospital.

THERE has been an outpouring of love and support for South African Football Association (SAFA) technical director, Neil Tovey, who suffered a heart attack on Sunday. The former Northwood School pupil is said to be in a critical condition.

Last year the former Bafana Bafana skipper suffered three heart attacks. The 54-year-old Mt Edgecombe resident had been training on Sunday afternoon when he went into cardiac arrest.

His former school also sent out a message in support of him on the Northwood Old Boys Facebook page.

‘Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.’

Tovey holds the record for most appearances in the National Soccer League. He aspired to be a doctor before opting to play professional football. His brother Mark, who was also a footballer, gave him football lessons. Tovey also coached at junior level at Juventus FC.

There has also been an outpouring of support on Twitter with many calling for prayers for the 54-year-old.
