Police warn of latest house break-in trends

Criminals are breaking into homes via the roof.

POLICE from the Greenwood Park policing district have sent an urgent warning to the public relating to the latest house break in trends. According to W/ O Leon Audh, of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the primary modus operandi that has become prominent in the area includes criminals detaching garage doors.

He said, after they gain entry, they loot the garage and break-in into vehicles.

“We urge all residents whose garages are detached from their homes to ensure that they install alarm systems to these garages and that the doors have active contact points. All measures should be taken to reinforce the doors where possible,” he said.

He said perpetrators have also lately broken into homes via the roof.

“We appeal to the community to safe guard their trap doors by installing alarm contact points on them and also installing latches to the trap doors,” he said.
