Third kidnapping, assault by VW Polo gang

The latest kidnapping and robbery occurred in Glenwood.

A THIRD person has been kidnapped and robbed by the VW Polo Gang. Police believe the modus operandi used by the gang matches two other kidnappings and sexual assaults in the area. The latest incident occurred in Glenwood on Tuesday.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS said they were still looking for the gang.

“Though this incident occurred in Glenwood, we are again urging walkers, joggers and residents not to walk alone. We are still investigating the kidnappings and assault cases. The gang are using a red VW Polo and are targeting residents who are isolated. We believe the same men are involved in the two previous cases and we are currently investigating,” he said.

According to Blue Security’s Brian Jackson the incident occurred in Glenwood in broad daylight.

“The gang took her on a nightmare ride to a local shopping centre where they robbed her of her valuables. The men grabbed her from behind while she was walking along Mazisi Kunene (formerly South Ridge) Road and forced her into their vehicle before speeding off in the direction of Musgrave Centre. The men stopped the vehicle at the centre and pointed a firearm at her, demanding her handbag.

“They then ordered her to get out of the vehicle and to not look back. They fled with her bag containing her bank cards, cell phone and cash. She was traumatised and managed to walk back to her residence in Glenwood,” he said.
