Taxi goes up in flames on the M4

Crisis Medical paramedics confirmed there were no injuries.

A TAXI driver and his passengers were lucky to escape serious injury after a taxi caught alight on the M4 (northbound) on Friday afternoon. The fire broke out just under the bridge leading down into uMhlanga village. According to Neil Powell, of Crisis Medical, the road was temporarily closed while firefighters fought the blaze.

“The passengers and driver got out of the vehicle before it caught on fire. Firefighters put out the blaze but the taxi was completely gutted. There were no injuries and it’s unclear what caused the fire to break out. Traffic is slow moving in both directions and traffic going north is being diverted onto the off-ramp,” he said.
