Amanda reflects on her Idols journey

Former Danville Park Girls' High School pupil said her time on Idols was absolutely incredible.

DESPITE missing out on the top 10 on season 12 of Idols, Rosehill resident, Amanda Kunene, said she wouldn’t trade the experience for anything in the world. The 22-year-old who lives with her mother, twin sister and younger sister is currently studying towards an Honours Degree in Music at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

“This has been such an amazing experience. Working with such respected and talented people in the music industry has been absolutely incredible. I’ve also been so blessed from the support from my family and fans and though it’s disappointing to say farewell, I’m very proud of my efforts and this journey has been a platform to dream bigger and I would not trade this opportunity for anything, I loved,” she said.

A former Northlands Primary and Danville Park Girls’ High School pupil, Kunene, said she knew she was destined for a career in music.

“I was always on stage, I was part of the school choir. From the age of six-years-old I would perform for my family. This year was the first time I entered Idols, I wanted to prioritise my studies first. I thought this year would be the best time. I also wanted to challenge myself and dream bigger.

“For my first audition I sang Zama Jobe’s Ndawo Yami, and the song took on personal significance for me. The song talks about dreams and rivers running wild which I thought was apt for my audition, launching my dream with a golden ticket. I got four yeses from the judges which was awesome. Unathi and Somizi loved my audition and they were all very constructive in what they had to say,” she said.

Amanda hopes her performances on the show will help her land a recording deal.
