uMhlanga clinic revamp complete

Several upgrades have been made to the clinic on uMhlanga's Village Green.

THE mobile clinic at the Village Green in uMhlanga Rocks has undergone a massive transformation. In the last few months generous donations have enabled the Umhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) to install to 32 square metre awnings for shade and shelter for the patients as well as two aircons.

What’s more, workers laid 50 square metres of paving and planted 320 square meters of lawn and greenery to soften the aesthetics of the clinic.

The Umhlanga UIP’s operations manager Dewet Geldenhuys said the purpose of the revamp was to improve services offered at the clinic.

“This is a really busy facility that caters to a cross-section of the community, from the elderly to moms with babies. Previously, all the patients were forced to brave the elements as they waited to be seen to,” he said.

“Everybody came to the party and assisted with the project, some donated items while others provided services at special rates. We are confident now that everyone using the facility will be able to wait while sitting in the shade on a proper bench. It is the little things that make a huge difference in the lives of others,” added Geldenhuys.

In the future the UIP also hopes to build some stairs leading from the road to the clinic to ease patients’ access.
