Dance-a-thon to raise funds for charity

The five hour dance-a-thon will raise funds for three entities including the Durban North/Umhlanga Crisis Team.

RESIDENTS are being urged to put on their dancing shoes and boogie the day away for a charity Dance-A-Thon at Northlands Primary this Saturday. Belinda Hellerlé, who is a dance instructor at the Bee Line Dance Studio said the five hour dance marathon was to raise funds for three causes. The event will serve as a fundraiser for the Durban North/Umhlanga Crisis Team, House Of Love And Hope (HOLAH) and the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL).

“We held our first dance-a-thon in 2005 and we realised what a great way it was to drum up support and get the community involved. I love dancing and I know we get so much pleasure from dancing and we thought this was the best way to channel it towards a positive goal. I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to raise money for these three causes.

“It’s a high-energy fundraiser and everyone loves to dance so you won’t have trouble finding people to sign up to participate. We have set a target of five hours and if people want to we could go on for longer. I urge the North Durban community to get behind us and support this awesome initiative. Don’t worry if you have never done it before, instructions will be given on the day. Even if you don’t dance, just come out and support the people,” she said.

The event takes place on Saturday, 10 September from 9.30am to 2.30pm at Northlands Primary. To participate costs R50 and entrants are encouraged to donate a baby product for HOLAH and an animal product for AACL. Contact Belinda on bee@linedance.co.za.
