WATCH: How to wear your Tube of Hope

Local fashion designer, Kathrin Kidger, shared some tips on how to wear your stylish Tope.

LOOKING fabulous while supporting a worthy cause has never been easier. With the launch of The Sunflower Fund’s brand new fundraising campaign, Sunflower Day, the public has been challenged to buy and don a colorful Tube of Hope, also known as a Tope, on 16 September.

Unlike the old bandannas that people were encouraged to wear on the non-profit organisation’s Bandanna Day the Tope is truly versatile and the ways in which one can wear them are nearly endless.

To give us some top-notch inspiration following the launch of the new Topes was Durban fashion designer, Kathrin Kidger at Chateau Gateaux in Durban North last week Thursday. The Topes are available in six vibrant colours.

Kidger  proved that you can show off your Topes by wearing them as a headband, scarf, mask, tie, armband or legwarmers. Bikers can even wear them as neck warmers, added Kidger.

Mandy Bergsma, of The Sunflower Fund, said that the initiative was the organisation’s biggest fundraising event and was essentially giving patients suffering from leukemia and other blood disorders a ‘sense of hope’.

“Leukemia affects everyone, a brother, a mother, a daughter or a grandfather, but without the funds we would not be able to improve our donor registry and find patients their 1 in 100 000 match. By wearing your Tope you are also showing solidarity to people with leukemia and raising awareness,” she explained.

The Topes are available in small (R20) and large (R25) from August at Pick n Pay stores nationwide, Round Table, selected ICPA Pharmacies and the online store, Zando.
