Men charged after opening false car theft cases

Both men alleged their cars were stolen in uMhlanga.

DURBAN North SAPS has opened two separate cases of defeating the ends of justice against two men who alleged their cars had been stolen in uMhlanga. According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, the incidents were alleged to have taken place on Chartwell Drive and at a hotel on Lagoon Drive.

“In the first case, the complainant said he’d parked his car at a local hotel but when he came out later he couldn’t find his car and contacted the station. A case of theft was reported, however, the next day the man returned and admitted he was a little intoxicated and had forgotten where he had parked his car.

“The second incident followed a similar pattern and the owner of the vehicle again admitted he did not remember where he had parked his car. We have decided to open two cases of defeating the ends of justice against the men because both cases were a waste of police manpower. We are urging residents not to open false cases because they will be caught and prosecuted,” he said.
