No relief for eMdloti water restrictions

The recent rains only increased the Hazelmere Dam levels by three per cent.

THE recent heavy rains have only resulted in a ‘slight improvement in water resources’, said Umgeni Water spokesperson, Shami Harichunder.

As such, the torrential rains have done little to bring some respite or relief to the ongoing water restictions in eMdloti.

Harichunder said that following last week’s rains the Hazelmere Dam level had been raised from 50 per cent on 28 July to 53 per cent.

However, Harichunder said that the 50 per cent mandatory water restrictions for consumers who are fed from the Hazelmere Dam would remain in place until the dam levels have reached 60 per cent.
