Furballs come to the aid of animal carer

NPO donates more than 150 kilograms of dog food to local rescue organisation.

A REDHILL organisation recently came to the aid of Robert Musawenkosi. Feeding the Furballs donated more than 100 kilograms of dog food to the 53-year-old’s Musawenkosi Animal Care organisation which aims to help and protect dogs and cats, as well as sterilise them.

Farrah Khan Maharajh from the furballs explained she saw Robert’s appeal in the Northglen News and decided to help.

“We’ve worked with Robert before and we know the good work he is doing especially in the townships where there is little or no support. In all we’ve donated 150 kilograms of dog food. I don’t think many people realise how much animal rescuers are involved in. Once they rescue an animal in distress, they are between vets and trying everything they can to save the animal.

“There is not enough time for them to buy food or fundraise for the animals as well, so we had to step in to help,” she said.

While Robert’s organisation has no set parameters in which to help animals, he rescues animals from Inanda, Verulam and other metropolitan areas. He said he was blown away by the gesture.

“I’m speechless. I didn’t expect so much. We currently have nine dogs in our kennels and this is going to help feed them. In Ekumanazeni, where I live, there are hundreds of dogs and cats running around, and I saw a need to help my own community by giving back to them.

“I’m very lucky to have the support of so many animal organisations and vets like Ashburne Vet who sterilise all the animals I bring to them. I’d like to than Farrah and her mother for this donation,” Robert said.
