Two arrested after sushi restaurant robbery
A local security company and police used an iPhone stolen in the armed robbery, to track the suspects to Inanda.
TWO men have been arrested after an armed robbery at Bamboo Sushi Lounge on Umhlanga Rocks Drive at about 11.30pm on Thursday evening. According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, an iPhone stolen from the premises was tracked and led police and the company to Inanda where the suspects were apprehended. The vehicle used in the robbery, an Audi A7, had been hijacked in Nandi Drive a month ago which the Northglen News reported on.
“A patrol car was flagged down by the victim who said he had been robbed at gunpoint. He was held up by four armed men who stormed the premises while he was locking up. The suspects took a flat screen TV, a computer tower, an undisclosed amount of cash with the till, an iPhone, a wallet, car keys and a hard drive for the cameras.
“We managed to track the iPhone, which was eventually switched off at a location in Inanda. Both the SAPS and our officers went to the house which was closest to the location and discovered the white Audi A7 that was used. The vehicle was confirmed positive from a hijacking in Nandi Drive a month ago,” he said.
Various break-in tools were found in the boot of the car which was found within two hours of the robbery. Two suspects were apprehended.
“Two of the suspects were positively identified by the victim, were arrested and taken to Greenwood Park SAPS. The vehicle was handed over to Ntuzuma SAPS,” Van Reenen said.
