Manhunt for double hijacking and murder suspects

Criminals on a hijacking spree shot and killed a woman no more than 100 metres from the first hijacking.

A GANG of armed men left a wake of devastation during a crime spree in Kenville last night. One person was shot and killed while another was assaulted as the men committed two hijackings along Myhill Road at the end of Youth Day commemorations.

According to W/O Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the criminals began their wave of hijackings near the informal settlement, where they accosted a truck driver parked on the side of the road.

“They arrived in a white VW Polo. Two of the suspects were armed. They pulled the truck driver from his Mitsubishi truck and assaulted him before hijacking the vehicle,” he said.

No more than 100 metres down the road, the brazen hijackers are said to have targeted a couple in a silver VW Polo.

Audh said the suspect driving the hijacked truck pulled in front of the silver Polo, cutting it off.

“The passenger of the silver Polo reportedly thought that they were caught up in a road rage incident and that the truck had cut them off because they had done something wrong. When she got out of the car to appologise, the suspects shot her,” he said.

She was shot in the head at point-blank range and was declared dead at the scene, said Audh.

While both hijacked vehicles were recovered in Ntuzuma, the suspects remain at large.

Cases of murder and hijacking have been opened at the station. “Police are working around the clock to ensure that the suspects are arrested,” said Audh.
