Emaciated dog shocks animal rescue group

“It's the worst case of starvation we've ever seen,” said the PACT.

THE rescue of a severely-emaciated dog has shocked Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT), which says it’s ‘the worst case of starvation’ they have ever come across. Tequila, who was found chained to a tree, had to eat her own faeces out of starvation.

Neeri Naidoo from the organisation said nothing prepared them for what they saw when they arrived. The starved dog’s owners said it was ‘normal for her to look like this after puppies’.

“She was chained to a tree on a short chain that was around her neck and held together by locks and cable ties. She had recently had a litter of puppies that were given away. She had no food or water and had eaten her own faeces out of starvation. I will never forget the look she gave me, as if she knew we were there to save her. We will be taking this matter further and make sure we go to the police to open a docket,” Naidoo said.

Tequila is currently at The Ridge Vet. Naidoo added that PACT needed about R1 500 as a deposit.

“We are urging people to help out and we are looking for a foster. Tequila deserves a second chance and together we can give her just that,” she said.
