M4 horror crash victim named

A Crawford College North Coast school pupil was killed in an M4 horror crash.

THE passenger who was killed in a horrific accident on the M4 at the intersection of Sandile Thusi (Argyle) Road on Thursday has been named. The victim was Crawford College North Coast Grade 10 pupil, Uzair Manjra. Another pupil from the school, Shaariq Joosub (Grade 11) was injured in the crash. The school postponed examinations scheduled for today to hold a special assembly this morning.

According to Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Athlenda Mathe, reports from the scene indicate that a Hyundai H1 collided with a Renault Clio. Paramedics had to use the jaws of life to free two occupants of the Renault.

“Unfortunately the passenger involved in the collision succumbed to his injuries on scene – paramedics worked tirelessly to resuscitate the man but he was declared dead,” she said.

The incident comes a year after the death of four pupils from Victory Christian Academy in La Lucia who were killed in a crash on the R102. The school paid an emotional tribute to their brightest stars a week after the tragedy.
