New alleged hijacking technique surfaces

Are criminals using fake bodies to trick you into stopping along the road?

A SOCIAL media post circulating on Facebook has warned the public against a new alleged hijacking technique.

The post features several photos of what appears to be a body lying next to the side of the road near the R102. It suggested that criminals might be creating these ‘dummies’ to trick members of the public into stopping and checking on the ‘person’. While the good Samaritan is distracted the criminals would pounce.

A security company based in North Durban said they recently received calls of a possible body dump.

Upon inspection, they discovered that the supposed body was in fact a dummy made from rolled-up bags and clothing.

They appealed to the community not to stop and investigate such incidents, but to rather contact the police.

W/O Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS said the station was not aware of any such incidences.
