Girl (12) injured in M4 crash

One of the vehicles is said to have reversed up the emergency lane after the driver missed the M41 turn-off.

FOUR vehicles were involved in the multi-vehicle pile-up on the M4 near La Lucia this afternoon.

According to Neil Powell of Crisis Medical, a 12-year-old girl and several other commuters sustained minor injuries during the collision.

“On arrival paramedics found that four motor vehicles had collided while traveling north bound on the M4,” he said.

Powell said eye witnesses reported that the accident occurred after one of the vehicles missed the M41 turn-off and reversed back along the emergency lane.

“The second vehicle applied breaks in an attempt to avoid colliding with the reversing vehicle. The following two vehicles then collided with the second vehicle causing it to lose control and hit into the centre barrier of the freeway,” he added.

The M4 was temporarily closed as paramedics treated the injured and Ethekweni Fire and Rescue cleared the scene.
