Woman arrested for Blue Lagoon hit-and-run

Police have confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the accident that claimed the lives of two Durbanites.

A WOMAN has reportedly been arrested in connection with the tragic hit-and-run accident at Blue Lagoon last week. Two people were killed in the crash.

Police spokesperson, Maj Thulani Zwane, confirmed this morning that a suspect had been arrested and is set to appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court.

On Wednesday last week, Sumeer Maharaj (26) and Praven Mahabir (25) came to the aid of their friend, Junaid Singh (28), who had been forced to stop at the M4 on ramp near Blue Lagoon due to a flat tyre. The trio were busy changing the vehicle’s tyre when a speeding vehicle crashed into them.

Maharaj was declared dead at the scene while Mahabir died early the next morning. Singh escaped with only a few broken bones.

Family and friends soon turned to social media with a desperate plea for any witnesses to come forward. Singh claimed that driver fled the scene in a black Kia Koup.
