Man robbed of R108 000 outside bank

The suspects used a handgun in the robbery and escaped in a white BMW.

A MAN was robbed of R108 000 in cash outside the Nedbank parking lot on Monday morning. According to Lt Raymond Deokaran of the Durban North SAPS, three men wearing balaclavas accosted the man in the parking lot on Adelaide Thambo (Kensinton) Drive at about 10am.

“One of the men, armed with a handgun, pointed the weapon at the victim and one of his colleagues snatched the bag with R108 000 in it. It is believed the man was going to the bank to deposit the money.

He added that the men then jumped into a getaway car, a white BMW.

“The victim was able to jot down the registration details, but when we checked the plates the number came up as false,” he said.

Deokaran urged residents to avoid, if possible, carrying large sums of money.

“Rather try and deposit the money electronically, or if you do carry cash, try and stagger your deposit times. Criminals look at their victims’ patterns, especially when it comes to banking,” he said.
