TWO women were arrested for allegedly stealing a bottle of expensive champagne from an uMhlanga restaurant on Saturday night.

According to Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, the women arrived at the restaurant in Chartwell Drive and ordered two glasses of wine at around 11pm.

“As the women were leaving they slipped a bottle of Moët & Chandon in a bag but an alert waiter spotted the alleged theft and followed them outside, where he apprehended them,” he said.

“Durban North SAPS attended the scene of the crime and both women were taken into police custody,” he said.

Moët & Chandon champagne retails for between R499 and more than R1200 a bottle.
