Toy gun used in violent armed robbery

The homeowner was not only brutally assaulted by two suspects but also shot in the eye with a toy gun.

POLICE are on the hunt for two men believed to be involved in a violent attempted armed robbery on Jobelankwali Road in Quarry Heights on Thursday morning. The men are said to have used a toy gun to commit the crime and even shot the homeowner in the eye with the weapon.

According to W/O Leon Audh, of the Greenwood Park SAPS, just after midnight the victim heard footsteps coming down his passage.

Upon investigation he was confronted by two men, one of who threatened the victim with a firearm, said Audh.

“After he (the victim) had asked the suspects what it was that they wanted, they immediately started to assault him with the same firearm they also shot him in his left eye. The complainant initially panicked but soon realized that it was a toy gun and began to scream for help,” said Audh.

The suspects then realised that residents in the area were responding to the victim’s pleas for help and fled the scene on foot.

Police have appealed to anyone who could assist in this regard to please contact Det/Cst M.S. Ngubane on 079 734 1180.
