Drunk driving charges brought against M4 driver
33-year-old driver is facing two charges for fatal accident on the M4 Ruth First Highway.
THE driver of the vehicle involved in Sunday morning’s M4 accident which left two cyclists dead will be charged for drunk driving and culpable homicide. It is alleged the 33-year-old driver plowed into the back of a group of cyclists at about 5am this morning.
He is currently being detained at the Durban North SAPS and will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court later this week. What’s more a second driver, trying to drive around the accident scene, struck one of the police vehicles, and was also charged with drunk driving.
“We can confirm the cyclists were pronounced dead at the scene and a 33-year-old man was arrested. He will be charged for drunk driving and culpable homicide. Durban North police and SAPS Collision Unit attended the scene. Another driver who knocked the Collision Unit vehicle was also arrested for drunk driving and reckless and negligent driving,” said SAPS provincial spokesman, Brigadier Jay Naicker.
The tragedy comes two days after a pedestrian was killed on the M4.
