Rescued dog shares ultimate bond with her rescuer

SPCA inspector is reunited with the dog he rescued and the pictures are priceless.

SINCE her rescue from the side of the N2 freeway, Nandi, the six month old cross breed, has bonded with her rescuer and Durban & Coast SPCA inspector, Lucas Moloi. It is believed the pooch had been stuck in the drain on the N2 near Nandi Drive for several days without any food or water, and was too weak to even lift her head. Incredibly, rescuers were only alerted to her presence after a car crash on the highway, as the motorists were exchanging details.

The Fire Department who were also called out to assist, used a specialised crane to lower Moloi into the manhole where he rescued Nandi. The operation lasted for almost five hours and the fire department had to remove the concrete cover of the drain.

Now the SPCA has shared some photos between the two who have shared the ultimate bond since the rescue operation.

Lindsey Fogarty, spokesperson for the Durban & North SPCA said despite Nandi being hungry and cold, she ran straight into Moloi’s arms as he lowered into the five metre deep drain.

“An immediate bond was struck between them. Nandi was brought to the SPCA, treated, bathed and properly fed for the first time in days and is recovering well after her traumatic ordeal. She has really come out of her shell in the few days she has been with us and has a beautiful temperament. While Nandi is now very friendly with other staff, she instantly recognizes her rescuer whenever she sees him, and the bond they share is something truly special to witness,” she said.
