Cut-A-Thon set to raise funds for Durban North strays
To raise funds for the Durban North Neighbour's Rescue Fund a Durban North hair studio will be hosting a Cut-a-Thon. All of the proceeds wil be used to sterilise, vaccinate and rehabilitate rescued strays.
A GROUP of Durban North hairstylists’ skills will be put to the test as they embark on a Cut-A-Thon fundraiser to collect funds on behalf of the Durban North Neighbour’s Rescue Fund. The aim is to cut as many people’s hair as possible.
The fund was recently launched by Kerry Haylett, founder of the Durban North Neighbours (DNN) Facebook page to assist the dozens of helpless stray animals rescued by the group’s members.
The latest addition to this lucky list of pooches and felines is Commander. The Rottweiler-cross was rescued from the Mount Edgecombe station after he was spotted by the neighbouring community.
Several members of the public lent a hand to feed the homeless hound, including Celeste Sharp. She even organised a blanket for Commander and ultimately contacted Haylett, who in turn managed to have him rescued from the site. Commander is currently in Haylett’s care.
While Haylett and the other members have been sourcing some funds for the initiative by sewing and selling dog beds, they welcome any donations that would further the cause.
All of the proceeds raised by the Cut-A-Thon, which will be hosted by Design Your Hair studio in Newport Avenue in Glenashley, will go towards helping the animals.
“I am just gobsmacked by the amount of support the group and it’s initiatives have received. It is heart-warming to live in a community where people are so supportive and willing to assist,” said Haylett.
- The Cut-A-Thon will be held on Thursday, 22 October from 8am to 4pm. The cuts will cost R80 per child, R140 for men and R250 for women. Contact Adele on 031 572 4685.
