New Jacob Zuma painting creates controversy

Some social media users have labelled the new painting racist, while others agree with its message.

A NEW painting depicting President Jacob Zuma with his penis down the throat of a woman is causing quite a lot of controversy on Facebook.

Some social media users have labelled the artwork – entitled ‘Spear Down My Throat (The Pornography of Power)’ – by Ayanda Mabulu racist, while others have called it a fair reflection on what is going on in the country.

Mabulu says he is angry at the governing party and the poor quality of life meted out to the black citizenry.

The painting shows Zuma with his penis down the throat of a woman, who the artist says represents the country, while she is being penetrated by a hyena in a Victorian suit.

What’s more, the woman is also being milked by an urn with the ANC label.

Zuma is no stranger to controversial paintings. In 2012, Zuma was depicted as Lenin with his genitals exposed by artist, Brett Murray’s painting, ‘The Spear’.

A year later, Mabulu again caused a stir with a work entitled ‘Yakhal’inkomo – Black Man’s Cry’, which was themed around the Marikana shootings.
