Trick or treat with Pooch Day

Put your best paws forward and enter your four-legged, furry friends in the event's best pooch competition.

VISIT The Crescent at Umhlanga Ridge for the fourth annual Pooch and Pet Day fundraiser on Saturday, 7 November between 10am and 2.30pm.

The day bares true testament to all Durban’s furry critters, as the event aims to raise some much-needed funds for three well-known, local animal-based non-profit organisations, The Feral Cat Rescue Trust, The Dachshund Haven and The Monkey Helpline.

There will be entertainment for the entire family, with craft markets, dog training, face painting, balloon sculpting and loads more, not forgetting the much-anticipated pooch competition.

So put your best paws forward and enter your four-legged, furry friends in the different categories: Best Dressed Pooch, Biggest Pooch, Smallest Pooch, Most Pampered Pooch, Best Pooch, Owner Look-Alike, Best Obedient Pooch and Best Pooch Trick.

One of the most heart-warming stories behind the event involves the much-loved-pooch, Freda, who found a loving new family at a recent event. Freda was rescued from a scrapyard where she was kept in a cage.

Her rescuer, local resident, Kerry-Leigh Phillips, then spent the day at one of the previous Pooch Day events trying to find a home for Freda.
It was there that the four-legged rescuee stole the hearts of eMdloti resident, Lauren van Rooyen and her family. They took her home and Freda has become part of the family, said Van Rooyen.

The day promises to be filled with prize give-aways and winning pooches. Contact marketing@thecrescent.co.za or 031 566 2887.
