‘Striking’ images snapped by local photographer

Electrifying images were captured by a Prestondale photographer.

SUMMER in Durban is normally a month welcomed by beach-goers and those looking for a reprieve from the cold. However, it also means we’ve officially hit the season for summer storms. Last night’s storm provided some ‘electrifying’ images captured by local photographer and Prestondale resident, Nick Ferreira.

“I was actually all nice and safe in my flat when I saw the flashes. It was pretty intense. I grabbed my camera but had to brave the wind and the rain coming through the window though,” explained Ferreira.

While he doesn’t consider himself a storm chaser, the local shutterbug said he’d love to photograph more lightning storms.

“After last night I could say that it is something I would love to photograph more often, so bring on the stormy weather. I have shot some before, but this is the first time I’ve gotten up close and personal.

“I love capturing the raw nature of the storm, there is an emotion of excitement mixed with fear associated with lightning storms and it is an awesome feeling to be able to capture that,” he said. In June this year, Ferreira also captured intense pictures of large swells on Durban’s shoreline, with some waves reaching the bridge over the M4.
