Robbed with a toy gun

The guard wrestled and disarmed one suspect, only to discover that the firearm was a toy gun.

A BRAVE security guard escaped with minor injuries after he took on two robbers on Sunday, 20 September. This after he managed to free himself from their bonds.
According to W/O Leon Audh of the Greenwood Park SAPS, the man’s harrowing experience began at around 10pm when he heard footsteps emanating from inside the business premises he was guarding on Peter’s Road in Sea Cow Lake.
“Upon investigating the sounds, he was confronted by one male who pointed a firearm at him and demanded truck tyres. He told him he did not know where the tyres were kept. Then another suspect approached him and they both tied the complainant’s hands with rope,” said Audh.
The suspects reportedly began searching the premises. They later returned with four truck tyres and then continued their search, he added.
At that point the guard managed to untie himself and he confronted the armed suspect. A fight ensued and the guard managed to disarm the man.
“It was later discovered that the firearm was, in fact, a toy gun. A neighbouring business security guard managed to phone the police for assistance,” said Audh.
The suspects fled the scene without the tyres, however, they snatched the guard’s cellphone and cash.
He sustained minor injuries to one of his fingers. Police have urged any witnesses to contact Det/Col Serfontein on 083 426 9657.
