Springfield robbers make off with boat

Robbers made off with R250 000 worth of items from a Springfield Park business.

TWO armed suspects held up the owner of a Springfield Park business on Wednesday this week before making off with a Toyota Hilux and, bizarrely, a boat to the value of R250 000 (collectively). The incident occurred at about 5.50am and Greenwood Park SAPS are now appealing to anyone with information with regards to the robbery to come forward.

According to W/O Leon Audh, spokesman for the station, the owner was conducting an inspection at his business premises when he found the gate was slightly ajar.  He also noticed a Golf GTI parked outside the gate.

“As he approached the guard room, he noticed two suspects inside the guard room but assumed they were security guards. Suddenly, one of the suspects pointed a firearm at him and took his company van keys from him. He was instructed by the suspect to go into the guard room, where he noticed the guard who works on the premises lying on the floor.

“The suspects then fled the scene in their getaway car and the Toyota Hilux. They also hooked a company boat onto vehicle and fled with it as well. It was a white Yamaha boat (2×60). No shots were fired or injuries reported. We are appealing with anyone with information with regard to this robbery to contact Det/Cst Mhlongo on 073 862 1700.

In a similar incident last year, three La Lucia residents were arrested for the theft of a luxury boat from an underground parking in Prestondale.
