Newborn dumped in Durban North

The lifeless body was wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped at the corner of Brown’s Drift and Riverside Road.

HIS tiny body was wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped at the side of the road – amongst the bushes and strewn litter at the corner of Brown’s Drift and Riverside Road.

The first human contact came three hours after the discovery, when mortuary staff carefully lifted the deceased infant into the van.

Abandoned in the desolate corner he was only discovered at 6.55am, when two men strolled past the scene and decided to inspect the contents of the bag.

They were met with the heart-wrenching sight of the baby’s lifeless body – the umbilical cord still attached.

The men contacted Brian Daish of the Greenwood Park CPF, who in turn contacted SAPS.

Crisis Medical was also called to the scene. Kyle van Reenen, the emergency service’s spokesperson, confirmed that the baby had been declared dead at the scene.
